Forgot to post this yesterday.

I had to work my last shift for this month on Tuesday. That time wasn’t as bad as the last times because the big boss wasn’t there and neither were the two old c*nts. The weather wasn’t exactly great so there were more than 700 people in the house when I started my shift at 11am. At that time we were only four people: the ‘substitute’ boss who had to take care of the serving counter, that one weird older guy had to take care of the scullery and also had to prepare salads and stuff, the other temp (I think his name is Dennis?) was in the scullery and the sauna, and I was in charge of the cash register (without cash), the dining area and the terrace. I think the first time I was able to wipe the tables was at 1:30pm. But they couldn’t reach any more temps or anyone that would fill in.

Then at around 2pm three more people came (at last) – two who had to help at the serving counter and Andreas who had to stock up ice cream cones and drinks for me. I basically just stood there, entered the burgers, scanned the chips – and when I needed something Andreas had to go and get it for me. No one was complaining all day. Well, Andreas complained once – I should stop getting so many people there and like, only sell every third person something.

It was the best shift I have had – and will have (probably). But still – when that ‘substitute boss’ guy asked me whether I could work this Wednesday as well I told him that I wouldn’t be in  town the rest of the week. Now I have almost 14 days off. But was it right to lie? I’m actually feeling a bit bad. Even though I could have only worked one more shift. Oh dear…

Second night without sleep. I hate it. Before work this (or rather yesterday) morning I was close to tears because I was just so tired.

Why?

Well there is a tiny mosquito in my room. It makes a very loud buzzing sound but I can’t even see it. Last night every time I was about to fall asleep this %^*(&! Bit me. 5x in my face, 3x my hand and 2x my arm.

And there’s just nothing I could do about it.

(But believe me, if I find that motherf*cker I will rip out its legs and wings, one by one!!!)

German stereotypes: hardworking, efficient and disciplined

Virgo characteristics: precise, orderly, efficient

So the country I was born in and my zodiac sign have (according to the Internet) the same characteristics.

. . .

Weird.

. . .

Maybe you should be scared of me?

Thinking ‘bout making a new background picture but when… and how? It’s got to have London, UK, Germany, ghosts, books, cats and so much more in it. I know exactly what it’s supposed to look like but I have no idea how Photoshop works and it’s too complicated for paint…

17 August, 2015

Since the last post was rather negative I thought I should tell you about something more positive I found out earlier today:

I am...

*drum roll*

DEBT FREE!

I still can’t really believe it!!

I’ve made an Excel chart a few months back with earnings and expenses for every month, and until today I thought I had to pay back €2,000 for my driving licence and €180 every month for my studies. But – I only have to pay back €1,500 for the licence and €120 for my studies. Therefore I actually make +€20 every month. And there’s enough money on my bankbook to pay for my studies and the licence when I’m done in 2 years from now. Soooo… 95% of my wage goes into my money box for London.

“Dreams Don't Work Unless You Do”
- John C. Maxwell

And I do work. But for how long?

Yesterday another temp tipped me off that the two older women working there (who of course have a say there) think of me as too slow and too dumb, and that I have to be extremely careful or I’ll be out in no time. Well, I’d probably be faster if someone actually showed me what to do – more than just the basics. But to be honest I wasn’t really surprised when he told me, I had seen them bitching about me earlier, and they had been yelling at me in front of the customers more than once.

The first time it was because I had opened the ice cream packs the wrong way, the second time it was because (according to her) I was pouring the beer wrongly into the glasses. She yelled at me to get out of the way and snatched the bottle I was holding out of my hand – and then let it fall. I don’t know how or why, but all of a sudden it was my fault. The four guys were close to leaving without their beers and I was close to tears. Afterwards I dared to ask her how I am supposed to pour the beer – and she explained me how to do it. And it was exactly how I had done it before. Another girl had showed me how to do it. What?!! The third time I was wiping the tables, and all tables apart from one were empty – and just when I got to the table next to the couple she came and bit my head of whether I had detergent in my water. I was like ‘(wtf) yes of course’ and the people just shook their heads when she was gone.

I was so glad when I was finally allowed to go home.

I doubt I’ll still work there next month because they’ll complain to the big boss about me, but at least I’ll have earned a bit over €200.

Then when I woke up today I had one missed call from work and I was already worried that they might have wanted to fire me already. When I called back it turned out that it had only been Marie because they had been one person short. Later they called me again, this time it was the big boss – but he seemed nice (a bit too nice) and wanted to know whether I could come to work tomorrow. Money is money, and if I can get more before I’m kicked I don’t really mind.

16 August, 2015

I’ve got to work from 5-10pm today so I’m basically sitting here wasting my time until I have to leave.

The weather outside is autumnal, 20°C at best, everything’s just grey. I can’t concentrate on my book, it’s already too late for a short nap… As so often I ended up in front of the TV.

For a change I’m watching German TV. “Goodbye Deutschland” is the only halfway interesting show on right now but… I don’t know, it’s mostly people who can’t even speak English A2 (and no Spanish/Finnish/Italian or whatever language they need in that country) and want to move to the US, South America or Spain.

For me their desire to emigrate used to be so weird, but the longer I am here the bigger my own desire to move to Britain gets. I just want to leave at last. But I still have two more years at university and many other things I have to take care of before I’m finally free to go.
At least I now finally have a side job to earn some money for it…

Yesterday was my third shift at the swimming pool and for approximately 15 minutes I was literally in fear of my life.

Why?

Well, my co-worker asked me to refill the ice cream freezer cabinet. No problem. But – there were 4 or 5 sorts I just couldn’t find in the freezer cabinets in the backroom. So I had to go into the cold store. Opened the first deadbolt, went into the tiny cold store, opened deadbolt #2 and went into the even smaller and even colder cold store #2.

In 99% of the films that’s the moment in which someone (accidentally) locks the poor victim in. Or the door closes and cannot be opened from the inside. And no one would hear me. Death from cold.

I still think it's incredibly funny when a new Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter film is out the German media is always talking about the 'new Johnny Depp movie' while (for some reason) everyone at uni is calling it the 'new Helena Bonham Carter film'.

"Have you watched the Alice in Wonderland film that came out in 2010?"
"Oh the one with Helena Bonham Carter?"

"Do you know Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Has anyone of you read the book? I'm sure most of you have watched the film with Helena Bonham Carter."

Poor Johnny.

Hola people who are still reading my blog!

Been sitting in front of my laptop for hours now because I wanted to tell you about my first day at work but my head hurt so much that I just couldn't think of anything to write.

In short: I worked 6 hours, I got to work with a girl my age called Tina (seriously), and I was at the checkout almost 5 of the 6 hours. Not that great but definitely less disgusting than the scullery. Can't wait to get my first money or I might go mad.

In a few hours is my first shift at the swimming pool and I'm really nervous... I bet I forgot something important. Or completed the contract all wrong. Or they don't want me anymore and just forgot to tell me. Or all three of them.

Still, if all goes well I'll probably end up as the Tina of the swimming pool. Weird and useless. God, I can't wait for 5:00pm when I finally get to go home again.

German TV at its Finest

I get to watch both British and German TV, and some casting shows and of course most of the American TV shows are the same.
I’d say the biggest differences can be noticed in paranormal shows – I haven’t seen one on German TV ever – and the shame-factor. You sometimes get to see naked people before 2pm on German TV.

It’s terrifying.

We Germans even have a ‘naked dating show’. At least one man and one woman (sometimes one man and 2-3 women or vice versa) are put on a lonely island. Naked. With food and condoms. And nothing is censored. Like, nothing nothing. You can even see how ‘happy’ the guy is when he sees the women. The show is on at 9:15pm. So everyone above the age of 14 gets to see d*cks and breasts without having to go on adult websites.

But compared to last night’s show… that’s nothing.

In Germany we also have an I’m a Celeb version (IBES) with German ‘stars’. Next year will be the 10th season, so the channel decided to make a summer version in which 3 people from each of the seasons get to play against each other until there’s one left, and the 9 winners get to play against each other at the final on Saturday. The winner is then allowed to go back into the camp for the 10th season in January.

The first few episodes were pretty boring. Then came yesterday… First the two guys and the ‘model’ kept screaming at each other because they apparently still hate each other? Then their challenges were shown. In one they had to melt an ice cube in a certain amount of time. First in a cooler room (probably around 8°C), the next was 0°C and the last was -18°C. In the first they managed to melt it by holding it in their hands and putting it in their mouth. No problem here. But then…

They had 5 minutes to melt it. Hands didn’t seem to work anymore, so the oldest of the three (65 years old!) opened his trousers, pulled out his d*ck and STARTED TO PEE INTO THE LITTLE BOWL WITH THE ICE CUBE. AND THEN KEPT PUSHING IT WITH HIS FINGERS IN THERE. AGAIN AND AGAIN. AND YOU COULD SEE EVERYTHING. AAAAH!!! Then in the next room they had 5 minutes to eat ice cream and there weren’t any spoons so they ate it with their hands, and the other guy had to help him and only realised WHILE HE WAS ALREADY EATING IT that this dude who had just had his hands in his pee had already touched the ice cream AND I’LL HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT THIS FOREVER!!!

Update: Yesterday (Wednesday) we got 4 naked guys sitting with spread legs on posts (one of them accidentally sat on his balls), and 3 naked women - within less than 2 hours.

Ice Cream & Ducklings

It might sound as if I'm currently super-active and spend my days outside - but no, not really. Since Friday I've finished one book, watched one movie and a few Ghost Adventures episodes as well as Trash-TV in the evenings. And yesterday I went on a short morning walk up the hill. The view was spiffing so I decided to take some pictures.

But today I wanted to be really lazy. Just Ghost Adventures, a nap, next book, another nap,... But my grandma texted me to ask whether my little sister and I wanted to go for an ice cream. Well, who wouldn't?? We're talking about ice cream!

Now I'm fat. It didn't only stay with ice cream.

Ducklings!!!!

After almost 2 months of waiting I've finally received my Christmas letter today!

I know, it's August... but the letter had been burried on a desk in the Netherlands till May, then was sent the week the mail strike in Germany began... I was sure I would never get it.

But here it is!!!

Included was this little snake cube thing... I hate it. Seriously. I spent hours trying to get it back into a cube but I was too stupid. Finally searched for the solution on youtube and after another 30 minutes I finally managed it. I was so proud and showed it to my mum. She glanced at it - "you did look that up on the internet, didn't you?" Grmpf.

Last Day of Uni

... and it didn't start very well.

According to the schedule we were supposed to first have a 2-hour presentation about surviving year two and to then get our reports at 10:15am.

I decided to skip the presentation and to take a later train so I'd still be on time for the reports. Haha! The train was 15 minutes late and the teachers decided to hand out the reports 30 minutes earlier. I ran but got there 60 seconds before everyone left. So one minute in which everyone from FAK I and FAK II stared at a red-faced, sweating and panting me. And of course I had to walk to the front to the headmistress and the deputy headmistress to get my report. Awkward.

Afterwards - since a 2-hour way to uni for one minute of awkwardness is a bit too much - I decided to stay and help a few of my classmates with the stock take of the uni library. I don't want to pretend here that I only stayed there to help them because I'm that nice. I wanted to borrow a few books for the holidays because I've read all the books I own at least 3 times.

So we (I + 6 others) first divided into 3 groups, one group had to check the DVDs, one had to check the English books (novels and stuff), and the last group had to check the other books (German, Spanish, French, etc.) I was in the last group - meh. But it turned out that our laptop didn't work so I got to join the book-group.

At around 1:00pm (we had finally reached the letter 'H') the headmasters told us to take a break - and invited us and a few other students who did a lot for the school in the last year to get some pizza. So we went to the Italian restaurant around the corner and everyone was allowed to order something to drink and a pizza or pasta - but we were NOT ALLOWED to order a salad. According to my deputy headmistress the salad there tastes like crap. So I ordered a coke and pasta with spinach (great pasta!), and after we were all done with that my headmistress asked us if anyone wanted anything more to drink or maybe some ice cream? We were full... But it was really nice of them to buy us all food!

Afterwards we got back to checking the books and DVDs. We were only 5 people left and we checked and checked and checked... and the headmistresses kept coming back to ask us whether they could help us with anything or whether they should get us some cake or Cola or something. But no - we were busy. At least 5 times the 'big boss' told us to go home because our holidays had already started and the books could still be checked next year... But again - we were busy and doing really well at that time already!... Germans...

At some point my headmistress gave up and gave each of us an envelope. As it later turned out she had given everyone of us € 30,- for helping.

When we were finally done after almost 6 hours I borrowed 8 books and 3 DVDs.

The King's Speech (already watched before, great film)
Maleficent (also already watched)
The Corpse Bride

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Ghost Stories
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Pride and Prejudice
Sherlock Holmes
To Kill a Mockingbird

The day turned out to be better (and longer) than expected.

27 July, 2015

Tomorrow is the end-of-term BBQ at my university and my plans have changed a couple of times within the last few hours,  right now I have no idea how it's supposed to work out.

Plan A: I go to class till 1pm, then go home, take the 5pm train back to the city where my university is, walk to uni and bring them the salad and the bottle of Robbie Bubble.

Plan B: I skip the last lesson, buy the pink pegasus, take the train back home, the 5pm train back to uni, etc...

Plan C: Go to class till 1pm, go home, take the 4:40pm train back to uni and buy the pegasus on my way there, etc...

Plan D: Go to class till 1pm, then stay in town. Leave the salad and stuff at my mate's place and collect it later.

Plan D is not exactly the best. Getting up at 5am, then probably not being back in town till past midnight, I'll fall asleep on the grill. But at least I'll be able to get my horse with wings.

Spelt Husk & Millet Pillows

I'm sorry, I'm slow.

Last week we had a project week at uni where we had to work with FAK II on a website. The website was about pillows with herbs and other hocus-pocus stuff in them, and our assignment was to translate it from German to English.

Probably the most boring topic possible. (Even the teachers hated it - and they only had to hang around at school in case we wanted to know anything.)

Day 1, Monday:
We had 7 lessons in total and only two of them were for the project (resulting in many students (including me) to skip the last 3 lessons).
The teachers told us what kind of website it was, handed out the printed texts and divided us into groups. Then we had to read the texts and start marking all technical terms.

Day 2, Tuesday:
Tuesday we had another 2 hours for looking for the vocabularies and putting them in the 'perfect Excel list'. Not much to say about that.

Day 3, Wednesday:
Wednesday we had 4(!) hours for the project (after having the last 2 Spanish lessons of the year). And at least since then even the last person understood that a translation project with 50 translators is almost impossible. But we somehow managed to finish the vocab list despite the very bad puns and the older students thinking that they were so much better than we are (FU!)

At this point I would lie to share the two worst puns with you:

#2: the students were discussing about the product names and had decided earlier that they would simply call those special herbal mixtures 'for women', 'for better sleep' and... well... 'for joints'.
Now, the phrase already sounded a bit weird in German, but a 'special herbal mixture for joints' which has 'a very calming effect' sounds just forbidden... though on the other hand it might boost selling...

#1: it didn't really take a long time till this one came up:
The website is also selling Raps-Kissen. So we all looked up Raps in English - and we all found rape and rapeseed. So... Rape pillows... And of course 'Raps ist ein Energiespender' becomes 'rape is an energy booster'... Uhm...

Day 4, Thursday:
6 hours for the project. First we were divided into 3 groups (at least 10 students were missing), and then each group got a part of the main text to translate. My group did quite well, the only problem was that the teachers kept coming by to 'correct' our sentences. The other three hours we were busy correcting the texts with the other two groups. First was our part - and we really needed the whole 3 hours to correct the first page of it because - as it turned out - the teachers had completely screwed up our sentences and the solutions we had first were the right ones. We were not very happy.

Day 5, Friday: Open end
Oh dear, open end... we were all sure we would still be sitting on the text on Saturday, because the main text was 5 pages and then there were 10 more pages for the links... and we did not only have to translate everything but then also to discuss it with the whole group (we were approx. 25 students left). And when discussing one page takes 3 hours... oh dear! But - we were done at 11:15am. The client had forgotten to include the link pages in his order, therefore we didn't have to translate them. Doesn't really make sense to only translate the main page of a website but who cares - weekend! Afterwards the others went for a (free) ice  cream but I just went home... too many spelt husks that week...

25 July, 2015

My dad is such a fucking arsehole, I can't believe it...

Yesterday the people from the company he works for had their annual BBQ. They already started at around 1pm, and after some time the steaks and bratwursts were all gone (of course). But he stayed for "one or two beers".

With every hour he was there my mum got more and more annoyed, because he's unable to hold his drink and she was sure that he was still drinking. At around 11pm a co-worker brought some vodka and instead of saying no (because he normally hates vodka) and walking home (about 1 minute and 30 seconds) he stayed and started drinking that as well. When he finally decided to walk those 1 minute 30 seconds back to our house he first vomited in our garden and then decided to cool a bit down by jumping in the little channel behind the house - completely drunk in the middle of the night after a heavy shower.

I'm 100% sure every stupid teenager wouldn't be that dumb.

Throwback Thursday - the day I went to London to look for a place I've seen on a jigsaw puzzle.

And I really found it - even though it doesn't look like it did when the first photo was taken because the cafe (or restaurant) is now an Apple store. But the phone boxes are still there and that was the main thing.

Location: Apple Store near Covent Garden, corner James Street/King Street, London WC2E, UK

22 July, 2015

Dyed my hair 'purple' today... well I tried to dye it purple. My whole face was red and the hair... well. In short:

- I can't get the colour off my face
- I can't get the colour off my hands
- The colour is everything but purple. Looks like I just dyed them in a darker red than usual.

Not cool.

20 July, 2015

Sorry for not posting at the moment but I'm still really busy...

The exams are over and apart from one 4 I did really well in all of them (which surprised me especially in economics where I thought I had failed for sure because half of my sheets were empty?!)

But instead of 'wasting' my time by watching movies at school and going to the lake in the afternoon I have even more lessons, a translation project and in my free time I have/had to get that summer job thingy working.

Motivation = 0

That's why I'll probably skip the last two lessons tomorrow again and instead go and buy a razor (my hair is getting a bit boring again)... and then I've got to decide whether I should dye my hair reddish again or go a bit purplish...

Got to look different till next Tuesday (uni barbecue ftw!)

16 July, 2015

Throwback Thursday to 20th of July, 2013 - the day I was so annoyed that I had to hang out the laundry before I could eat some ice cream that instead of doing this I went to the next grocery store and bought ice cream.

I F*cked Up Again

Yesterday I changed all my passwords because of what had happened to my pictures. Also changed my password on the family computer.

Less than one hour later I had to realise that I had already forgotten the passwort from my laptop but thank god the newer Windows systems are all connected to something online so it was no problem to change it again.

The bigger problem was the family PC. When I tried to log in this afternoon I tried ~20 possible passwords, but none of them worked. My clue wasn't exactly helpful either: it was 'Nein.' It's still Windows Vista, so no chance of changing it online. What's even worse: I'm the only admin. So without the password you can't update or change anything on the PC.

...

But after searching online I found a program to delete the password, and after another 1 1/2 hours I had actually managed to understand the program enough to be able to log in without my old password. Woah. The first thing I did was to make a second admin account. Never again...

Are. You. Kidding. Me. ?!!

Last Saturday when I put the SD card with my London pics in my laptop it turned out that all the pictures were gone; the computer guy I gave the card to afterwards confirmed that for some unknown reason the card was as good as new - not even the slightest trace that it has ever been used in the first place.

I don't know anything about computers and stuff like that apart from how to turn them on and off, but thought that maybe the card broke or something. Can happen. Still weird.

I then luckily saved my few remaining pictures on a separate USB stick, because when I turned on my laptop yesterday ALL THE REMAINING PICTURES WERE GONE. They were in a folder on my desktop - the folder was still there, all the other pictures and files on my computer were still there - but my London pictures had completely vanished.

WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?!!!

Now I'm scared that I might come home from uni to find that all the pictures on my wall have vanished, too!

09 July, 2015

Throwback Thursday to 9th July 2014 - the day I passed my driving licence even though I shouldn't have.

I had already passed my theory test in August 2013 (with 100%!) but failed the first driving test in December. I had always hated driving, also because my driving instructor was an arsehole who didn't even show up every other lesson. So after I had failed the first test I decided to stop with the lessons.

After I passed my Abitur my mum forced me to start taking lessons again - this time at another driving school. At least the car was cool; it was such a big, expensive VW. And after two or three weeks my new driving instructor announced that he had enrolled me for another test.

During the 35 minutes test I killed the engine 9 times, drove terribly and parked (with the help of my driving examiner) straight - over 4 parking spots. I think he cried every 60 seconds "concentrate Ms D.!!"

I was sure I hadn't passed but I did - because "women and cars" and he was sure that "after some time [I] will be able to drive without murdering the car."

... haven't driven since then.

Mourning the Pictures

I had a special SD card just for my London pics and I took care of it as well as possible - just to find out yesterday that it wasn't working anymore. Tried every camera and every PC but they all said I had to format it, until my laptop decided to just start the formatting.

Now all of my more than 600 London photos are gone. Been crying for hours now.

Life Goal: To Never Achieve Anything. Ever.

She finished school with 18.

Went to London for one year to earn money for her studies, earned a lot - but went home to Germany every other weekend and ended up with less than with what she had started.

Went to university to become a teacher and demanded from her biological father 100€ a month, even though her mum earns more than enough while her father has two other kids and doesn't even earn half of what her mother earns.

She doesn't work in her semester breaks because she's 'better than people who have to work in a bar or something'.

She gets married with 23.

Instead of finishing her studies as soon as possible she studies for more than 7 years.

And instead of finally doing her first state exam she gets pregnant 1 1/2 years before it.

She takes another break from her studies but still wants her biological father to give her 100€ a month.

She has the baby.

One month later she calls to ask her dad for even more money because she has decided to not finish her teacher training but start with a 3-year apprenticeship. The baby has to go to nursery school with less than 2 months, and as soon as she has finished her apprenticeship she'll have to move to a different country every 3 years.

And after wasting all this time and money she still is the better child.
F*ck you?!

Still Looking for a Job

I'm 19 years, have my Abitur, currently studying English, good marks, did two internships (one with a 96% rating), I'm reliable, would do pretty much anything - but I'm unable to to find a sideline so I can pay back my debts.

Everyone wants someone experienced, but how am I supposed to gain experience when no one wants to hire me in the first place?!

Still, there's a tiny ray of hope; after asking in pretty much every company in the area I just got a message from the swimming pool that they might need someone. Please.

My dear friends, Germany really is a well working country...

Not only am I still waiting for a letter - for 5 weeks now and I know it normally only takes about a week - but today I almost didn't get to school.

On any other day no problem, I would've just called uni that I couldn't come because of the DB, but today I had an exam in the second lesson. In a subject where we only have two marks for the whole year.

That was the reason why I had already decided last night to take the earlier train, so I'd be at school one hour before the exam.

In the morning I left the house on time - like really on time, for the first time in ages - and got to the train station at 6:30am, 10 minutes before the train was supposed to arrive.

At 6:39 then an announcement: The 6:40am train will be 10 minutes late.

5 minutes later: The 6:40am train will be 15 minutes late.

Another 10 minutes later: The 6:40am train will be 25 minutes late.

At 7:05am: no train, no further announcements

7:15am: The second train in the other direction arrived. And left.

7:25am: The next train was to come at 7:30, apparently they 'accidentally forgotten' to tell us that the train had been cancelled?! If I had known earlier, I could've called a classmate and asked her to take me along.

So I had been standing at the train station for 60 minutes just to possibly be late for my exam?!
Tried to call my mum 3x until she finally answered, and asked her if she could drive me to uni in case the next train was also late.

7:29am, announcement: The 7:30am train will be 10 minutes late...

“The majority of students in the bac were not able to answer question M because they found it too difficult, with words only someone bilingual or with an excellent level in English could answer."

- I have no words for this...

Easy Scone Recipe

First of all: I can't cook. I can't bake. I don't even know how to use a microwave. I've never even made pasta. But I managed to make scones - so the recipe really is easy.

Ingredients:

250 g flour
2 tsp baking powder
40 g sugar
30 g butter (cold)
150 ml milk
1 pinch of salt
75 g raisins

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C
  2. Mix together the flour and the baking powder and add salt and sugar.
  3. Mix the butter in flakes with the flour.
  4. Add the milk and the raisins and knead everything together. The dough should be smooth and consolidated, if not add some more flour or milk.
  5. Leave it in the fridge for 10 minutes.
  6. Roll the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of ~2cm.
  7. Cut out circles with a diameter of 5-8cm (works best with a glass).
  8. Put them on a greased baking tray and leave them for 5 minutes.
  9. Bake them for 10-12 minutes until they're golden yellow. The circles should double their volume.
  10. Leave them to cool down on.
And that's it. Now you can eat them (best when they're still warm) with butter, clotted cream, sweetened whipped cream or jam.

The first time I ate scones was when I went to London in March. Found some cheap ones in a M&S near Tower Bridge... and they tasted exactly like the ones I made myself. Yay!
